Two technologies meet the demands of severe-service assemblies. Start with the flange type and standard, then check the fluid, pressure and operating temperature.

Quick selection
This table helps rule out an incompatible technology before choosing the material and filler.
An RTJ requires a compatible grooved flange. Without an RTJ groove, first consider a spiral-wound gasket or another flange-sealing solution.
| Criterion | Spiral-wound gasket | RTJ gasket |
|---|---|---|
| Flange type | Standard PN and ANSI flanges | Compatible grooved RTJ flanges |
| Construction | Metal winding with graphite or PTFE filler | Solid metal ring, metal-to-metal sealing |
| Common standards | EN 1514-1, API 601, ASME / ANSI B16.5 | ASME B16.20, API 6A — R, RX and BX profiles |
| Operating conditions | Up to 650 °C and 500 bar depending on construction | Very high pressures and temperatures depending on flange and material |
| Available references | PN 10 to 40, classes 150 to 600 lbs | Classes 150 to 2,500 lbs, references R11 to R105 |
Check the dimensions, class and filler of the spiral-wound gasket.
Record the ring profile and reference before making a selection.

PN and ANSI flanges
A V-shaped metal strip is wound with graphite or PTFE filler. The metal provides mechanical and thermal strength, while the filler creates the seal against the flange faces.
Spiral-wound construction retains recovery after the assembly relaxes.

Grooved flanges
A Ring Type Joint is a solid metal ring. When tightened, it deforms in the machined flange grooves to create a metal-to-metal seal for severe service.
Common applications: steam, gas, petrochemical and offshore installations.

Efficient enquiry
This information lets us check dimensional compatibility and operating conditions from the first exchange.
A spiral-wound gasket combines a metal strip with a flexible filler. An RTJ is a solid metal ring that deforms in the machined grooves of two compatible flanges.
Not without checking the assembly. An RTJ requires grooved flanges that match its profile and reference. Flange type and standard determine which gasket is compatible.
Provide the standard and flange type, DN and class or RTJ reference, fluid, temperature, pressure, required material and quantity.
Our engineering team advises you according to the flange, standard and actual operating conditions.
