The more precise the operating conditions, the more reliably the material, construction and thickness can be selected.
The fluid, temperature, pressure, equipment type, movement, dimensions and applicable standards must be assessed together. A single maximum value is not enough to validate a gasket.
Reinforced graphite is often considered for steam and high temperatures. PTFE is a common starting point for chemical environments and certain food or pharmaceutical applications.
